National Update
Last year, we shared exciting news with you: Foster Success is a national organization.
That milestone was driven by a collective belief that every young person transitioning out of foster care deserves the opportunity to thrive, no matter where they live.
Because of the trust of our partners and supporters, our work continues to grow. Thanks to you, we expanded our work with the Education and Training Voucher (ETV) program into Missouri, extending our reach to more young people pursuing their education goals.
Maria is becoming who she chose to be.
Growing up, Maria’s only constant was change. She moved across several states and was placed in eighteen foster homes. Many expected her journey in foster care to define her story.
“Going through what we go through, it can either shape who you’re going to be or drag you down and make you who people expect you to be.” she said. “But you can choose to build yourself up.”
Uplifted by her foster parents, she decided higher education was her path to build the life she chooses for herself. Though she had their support and encouragement, she wasn’t sure how she’d afford college while living on her own.
That’s when she heard about the ETV program and applied. That support gave her the stability to focus on finishing school, and significantly reduced her student loan debt. She graduated in May 2026.
This fall, Maria started her first year as a fourth grade teacher. Even though she’s teaching, Maria is not done being a student yet! After a year away from college, she plans to pursue a Master’s in Education Administration with hopes to become a principal.
By leading with compassion, Maria is becoming the kind of adult supporter who helps youth see their own potential.
